🌿 Publisher's review:
Bilal was a slave in a society that looked down upon slaves, but that did not prevent him from embracing Islam.
His master, Umayyah, ordered him to be tortured, but Bilal remained steadfast in his faith and declared, "Ahad, Ahad" (One, One).
Abu Bakr bought him from Umayyah and freed him, and so Bilal became a free man.
This is the story of Bilal whom you know, but what about the story of Bilal whom you do not know?
🌿 Author's dedication:
To the boys and girls who grew up in Western countries and countries of emigration,
To the fathers and mothers who face challenges affecting their faith and the faith of their children, to "Bello" whom I met one day, and this meeting changed my life and made me more attached to my language and heritage..
🌿 My opinion:
Honestly, one of the most beautiful things I have read for young people. The novel touches young people in Western countries. It is a story that happened 25 years ago in the Netherlands, as the author said 💝..
"Integration" is both the dream and the nightmare that troubles us and our children. We try to integrate into a society that is nothing like us and dream that life will move forward. And we fear integrating too much and losing ourselves and our children..
How many times has your child gone along with his friends in things he might not like just so he doesn't appear different.. How many times has your child been ashamed to talk about his religion in front of his friends for fear of their reaction..
How many times and how many times... each time your child loses a part of himself to become another person he doesn't know, and even if he pretends otherwise, that spark remains within him that he has changed..
But.. what if he had the strength to be as he is.. and even be proud of it.. Wouldn't he be like 'Bilal' who was freed from the shackles of slavery while still being a slave!!
A novel that gives your child strength.. especially when they know it's real.. for another Bilal they don't know.. but he was a boy their age.. he went through what they went through.. but Allah provided him with a gentle hand that changed much of what he was thinking and brought him back as Bilal instead of "Bello" who almost lost himself..
