🍡 Jaber's Cake 🍡
🍡 A Novel for Young Adults 🍡
🌿 Publisher's Review:
– "Mom, is all fire the same?"
– "What do you mean?"
Jaber, who had turned twelve two months ago, knew about different types of fire, and he knew a lot about natural sciences, but he was thinking about something else.
– "Is the fire that burned our houses the same as this fire we use to bake cakes?"
– "No, it's not the same. There are several types of fire depending on the material that causes the ignition, but I believe the difference between one fire and another is not in its material."
– "In what, then?"
– "The fire lit by evil people is a malicious fire that burns and destroys. As for the one lit by good people, it is a good fire, a fire that ripens food and warms people in the cold, and it has other benefits...
🌿 My Opinion:
One of the most beautiful novels I have read for young adults.
The novel is fuuuuuuull of emotions... sadness and joy... despair and hope... and it is fuuuuuuull of different situations of good and evil, and rich and poor...
The novel tells the story of many families who were displaced by war... after losing what they lost... and it talks about suffering... about migration... about Europe, the dream and the nightmare combined...
The novel was written in 2024 after the earthquake and before the liberation... and it reached the final shortlist for the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children's Literature...
And it deserves it... The hope sown in the novel gave me a strange feeling... because what the author wrote came true... and circumstances changed, and hope returned...
I highly recommend it for any child aged 12+ and possibly for younger ages if their reading ability is excellent...
For those who do not know much about the past cannot build the future...
I really liked the idea of doing good to overcome our feeling of pain from the past... I really liked the explanation of the idea of wars to children... and its application to the story of Moses with the Children of Israel...
The story is in large print and easy words, but without diacritics.
I say it again... I highly recommend it... I heard a lot about this novel, and now that I have read it, I found that it deserves every word of praise said about it...
