🍡 Sufyan and the Ramadan Lantern 🍡
🍡 In my opinion, for ages 6+ 🍡
🌿 A brief review by Dr. Wissam Al-Abdullah 😊
🌙 The story description says...
Sufyan intends to fast the entire month of Ramadan this year, but there is a problem with the Ramadan lantern... Can he solve it?
🌙 About the Story
The story is about ten-year-old Sufyan, whose mother has been training him to fast since he was six.
This year he has grown up and intends to fast the entire month, and he will train his younger brother to fast...
But he faces a problem, which is a problem in all homes now: rising prices that prevent us from buying household essentials, let alone lanterns for children, which are now considered secondary...
And because Sufyan understands what is happening in their home, he decided to make lanterns for himself and his younger brother...
🌙 What I liked
1️⃣ It's one of the interactive children's stories that guides children to a good idea, which is making lanterns with their own hands, with clear steps and a charming method...
2️⃣ The language of the story is simple, the words are clearly written and vocalized, and the sentences are somewhat long, suitable for a reading level...
3️⃣ Attention to the artistic aspect... The illustrations of the story are expressive and beautiful and show aspects of Ramadan in the home, such as Iftar and Suhoor, dates, and Ramadan drinks... And also a coloring page and a craft for a creative activity...
4️⃣ Attention to the educational aspect...
🌟 The story includes gradual training on fasting and how to start with them and teach them fasting... and that training takes many years...
It paid good attention to a method I followed with my children, which is fasting from Asr to Maghrib, then Dhuhr to Maghrib, and then from Fajr to Maghrib... so that the child is present at Iftar time and feels the joy of the fasting person and gathers with the family for food...
🌟 The beautiful gesture between the two brothers and his concern for his younger brother and making a lantern for him...
🌟 The child's appreciation for what his parents do and his awareness of the crises and problems they face... and his help to them to the best of his ability...
5️⃣ Attention to the faith aspect and connecting the child and explaining to him the meaning of Allah's name, Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful)...
6️⃣ Attention to behavioral development and the point of asking permission, of course, before entering on parents and not eavesdropping, and that when Sufyan heard the conversation between his parents... he heard it unintentionally...
7️⃣ Attention to children's safety... Sufyan did not connect the electrical wire except with his father's help...
8️⃣ Attention to literary enrichment...
The story has a final page for the child to write a different ending to the story... a beautiful expressive activity...
9️⃣ The story is an extended story accompanied by a set of interactive activities...
🌟 Question cards...
These are a set of religious questions on 8 cards... with their answers on the back... two questions per card... a total of 16 questions... a beautiful and enriching activity for children.
🌟 Coloring page...
An uncolored scene from the story for the child to color
🌟 Cut and paste activity...
To make a lantern from cardboard
🌙 Important notes...
1️⃣ A point I wanted to clarify in the story... some children might not understand it... so we might need to emphasize it...
A child before puberty is not held accountable... but, God willing, they are rewarded for good deeds and good deeds are written for them and they are rewarded for them...
And this is from the requirements and effects of God's mercy... for He is The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful...
2️⃣ I did not like the phrase "intensely Merciful"... because the word "Rahim" (Merciful) in itself is sufficient and is a hyperbolic form... and it is how God named Himself, so it would have been sufficient... Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim...
Meaning, He is more merciful to His believing servants. Thus, this name indicates the special attribute of mercy that believers receive. The attribute of mercy in "Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim" is based on "Ar-Rahman" because its meaning is abundance, meaning the name of Allah Ar-Rahman encompasses all creation without exception, for His mercy encompasses all things, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy...
3️⃣ Another point I would like to explain to the child, especially those who are 10 years old... is to make the child understand that we worship God between fear and hope, for He is Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim (The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful), The Forgiving, and He is also Severe in punishment... so they understand both points in balance... and there is no contradiction between them...
