⛓️ 14 Years in Guantanamo ⛓️
⛓️ By Sheikh Faiz Al Kandari ⛓️
⛓️💥 Author's Note:
The final moments in Guantanamo were among the hardest, just as the first ones were. It was like a stab wound; entering is painful and exiting is painful, but the pains are different. They share the anxiety of the unknown, like someone entering a tunnel, wary of the terrifying darkness that envelops them, and someone leaving it, anxious about what the light conceals within its depths. It is not surprising for a free person to fear the clinking of chains, but it is surprising for a prisoner to fear the joyful ululations of good tidings. How painful it is to stand on the doorstep of freedom, anxious about it, like a small child eager to walk, run, and jump, but fearful of falling, hesitant between crawling and standing up.
What I recount in this book truly happened; stories closer to imagination, which I lived moment by moment for fourteen years, to present them to you without diminution or exaggeration. If it reaches a living heart that seeks truth and is devoted to it, then it was written for that heart. But if it encounters watchful eyes and malicious hearts searching for what condemns, and seeking what is evil, seeing the tyrant's oppression but not perceiving it, hearing the groans of the oppressed but not listening, and truth calling them but they do not comprehend, indeed refuse to comprehend, then let them look for another book to amuse themselves with, for this book was not written for those who do not carry a human heart within them.
